I did not totally follow my plan this week. I went to supermarket on Friday, and I thought I could start on Saturday, but I did not. I went to dinner with family on Saturday. On Sunday, I made spaghetti and salad for dinner that was a good start for me. I was satisfying what I cooked and glad that I took the first step. However, I did not use kitchen again after that. I told myself that I was tired and busy today, so I would do it tomorrow. On the other day, I feel that I was doing something important, so I would think about it later. I think the reason that I keep eating outside is convenient. I can eat the food immediately without doing anything, and I do not need to wash the dishes and clean the kitchen after my meal. I think I should find someone to cook with me that may make it more interesting, or I can start from the easy food that will not take me too much time.

Week 2

Hi Rachel, I know that it is comfortable eating outside for many reasons. However as you have commented before, eating out is not very healthy. Here is a suggestion, why instead of cooking every day, why you don’t cook once or twice at week. Maybe you can cook at once enough for two or three days and then just save the food in separate containers. Actually you can try cooking two different dishes in one day. That way, you don’t have to worry about cleaning the kitchen after you cook every day. If you cook twice at week enough food for two or three days, then you will have home made food for most the days in the week. Then you could reward your self for cooking and eating at home, by once or twice at week going out to your favorite restaurant.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of having someone to cook with. It will be more enjoyable and not as tedious as you think. I'm happy for you that you took the small step of making spaghetti and salad. Keep going and maybe you should overlook the issue of convenience. Andrea made interesting points. Maybe you should just go out to eat only once or twice a week. It will save you money and be healthier for you.
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel, I think your idea of having a friend cook with you is really good. Maybe you should have a friend over on your day off and make a day of it. Figure out a menu, go grocery shopping, cook your meals for the week, and freeze them. Then you only have to pop it in the micro during the week. My mother-in-law will come over on a Sunday and we do this. It really makes the week so much easier. Keep up the good work! Lisa
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the cooking buddy idea. You and your friend can converse while you cook and it will definitely make it more enjoyable. My family also freezes food or just wraps them and saves them for the rest of the week. It saves time and dishes aren't too much of a hassle. To try and enhance your mindset you can say " if I eat in I can save up enough money to spend on ____" and that will encourage you to stick with your plan. Hope this goes really well for you! You took the first step, now just put one foot in front of the other! good luck!
Hi Rachel-
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you're off to a good start changing your behavior. However, be sure to follow the blog instructions for your posting each week. Here are the instructions for week 2:
Week 2: Baseline behavior
1. Look back on the week when you tracked your behavior. How much did you engage in this behavior at baseline?
Provide information on the frequency and intensity of your behavior at baseline.
2. Explain how operant conditioning might actually be perpetuating your unwanted behavior. For example, what rewards might you be getting from this behavior? Give some ideas of what you think might help you make long term changes to this behavior
3. Comment on your classmates’ blogs.
Let me know if you have questions!
Do you have any brothers or sisters? What I do with mine is we take shifts for cooking dinner, and what also helps us is we have a certain dish on a certain day of the week i.e. Taco Tuesday, Spaghetti Saturday (They don't have to start with the same letter though ;P) This gets you into the habit of having a certain food on that certain day of the week and you begin to actually crave it.
